Focus groups open doors to public perspectives and opinions, and through this the research team avoids relying solely on one-to-one in-depth interviews which may be burdensome for participants. A set of four focus group sessions, led and designed by Dr. Pamela Erskine-Loftus, took place in May and early June 2017. One focus group was comprised of international students from the Education City, one group of professional expatriates, and two Qatari groups comprised of government employees.

In 2018, the research team and research assistants held two more focus groups, one with an Arab women group, and one with a mixed-gender, mixed-nationalities expatriate student group. To complete the demographic profile of Qatar's population, two more focus groups are planned before the end of 2018 and the museum opening, one comprised of Qatari men and one of Arab men (non-Qatari).
